Sterry Memorial Evangelical Presbyterian Church
Maundy Thursday Passover Haggadah (Seder)
on April 17th at 5:30 p.m.
in the Sterry Church gymnasium
This is a worship service and family dinner which is held primarily in Jewish homes on Passover. It is a time when the entire family gathers together to share the wonders of our God as portrayed in the Exodus story.
In order to maintain the interest of your children and to excite their imagination, the Seder service is mixed with good humor and serious observations on Jewish life, poetry, songs and playful activities. Through the ceremonies and symbols, we will re-enact and re-live the exodus from Egypt.
In Exodus 13:8-9 Moses says,
During these festival days each year, you must explain to your children why you are celebrating. Say to them, ‘This is a celebration of what the Lord did for us when we left Egypt.’ This annual festival will be a visible reminder to you, like a mark branded on your hands or your forehead. Let it remind you always to keep the Lord’s instruction in your minds and on your lips. After all, it was the Lord who rescued you from Egypt with great power.
In preparation for this evening we urge you to read Exodus 12 so you can better understand the meaning of this service and meal.
Sign-up lists are on the Narthex bulletin board & library door.
